Áridos de Melo obtains its first energy saving certificate thanks to the unique replacement and commissioning of three electric bitumen storage tanks.

In 2023, Áridos de Melo replaced the main bitumen storage tanks (heated by thermal fluid) at its Vicálvaro facilities and installed three vertical electric heating tanks.

This made it possible to replace the consumption of natural gas for heating bitumen with electric resistors, which use the electrical energy generated by the photovoltaic installation covering its aggregate storage facilities.

The energy savings exceeded 2,225 MWh in the year following the action, representing a 90% reduction in the energy consumed in this part of the facility.

This action makes Áridos de Melo a benchmark in energy reduction for the manufacture of bituminous mixtures.
